Company & Production Status
Stage One Tuning (SOT) was a division of Barker Products for whom I
worked for. With the down economy and some business issues with Barker
Products, they decided to refocus their energies back on their core
business lines (hydraulic power units, lift units, nuclear test
equipment) and ceased the continued operations of the "car stuff", aka
SOT. Obviously that means the production of S2000 & Miata
supercharger kits ceased. I was thus laid off from Barker Products.
Because of my long time friendship and relationship with the owners of
Barker Products, I have taken over the SOT website myself.
My goal is to continue selling supporting mods (clutches, radiators,
etc.) through the SOT site as well as to continue as a point of contact
for existing supercharger kit owners in case they need hardware support, replacement, etcetera. I was a part of the very first
production MP62 kits for the Miata and I've been building the Miata
supercharger kits since 2002; and of course the S2000 kit
since it's release. What I can't to is continue to act as a
manufacturer of supercharger kits.
Kit Availability
After
receiving multiple inquiries on the availability of S2000 MP62
supercharger kits, I'm pleased to announce that I am able to sell MP62
supercharger kits for the S2000, but only for as long as there is still
adequate inventory available! The kits are officially not in
production.
Through my relationship with Barker Products I have
access to the remaining kit inventory. There are some
sub-assembly items that would need to be ordered once a supercharger
kit order was placed. Many of these components are items that I normally didn't put into my stock as my supplier most always had them on the shelf or available on short lead time.
Ordering these components in order to complete a kit would require me to collect at minimum a deposit
on the kit in order to pay for those items and get them in stock.
Again, I can't get into the business of manufacturing kits and
financing it. So, your deposit would be used to purchase those needed
items to complete your kit. Once I ordered and paid for them, they
would be yours. I couldn't accept an order cancellation nor offer you
a refund. I simply have no use for ordering new S2000 kit parts.
Deposit amount? That will vary depending upon when you ordered a kit.
The first few to order will have a lower deposit amount (and shorter
wait time) because I will have more items already in stock (such as the
MP62 blower itself). A good guesstimate would be around $1,500 - $2,000 deposit for the first few kits.
What Is/Isn't Included
These kits would be what was referred to as a "Tuner Kit." That is,
they include only the hardware portion of the kit and have NO engine management (EM) components included. There are numerous
forms of EM available, but the most commonly used has been the Greddy
E-manage Ultimate. More specific EM requirement details &
suggestions are posted below, but in short you would need to source your own EM (ie, Greddy
E-Manage Ultimate), fuel injectors, fuel pump, and spark plugs.
The hardware portion of the kit would include everything you need such
as the MP62 blower with mounting brackets, PWR w/a IC, all
sub-assemblies, required mounting brackets & hardware, crank &
nose pulley, belt, machined OEM crank pulley, full-color printed
instructions, CD with instructions as well as high-resolution images of
the installation process. See the image gallery at the top of this page for many images of the kit's components! One kit variation would be if you want to
remote mount your battery in the trunk, or if you want to purchase an
Optima battery and have it mounted in the engine bay (this is the
option that I highly recommend!).
Where to
Purchase
I am the only source for these kits; there are no longer any distributors. Due to the deposit nature, special order status, and customizing options that you may have, I have disabled on-line ordering for these kits. Please use the Contact Us page to let me know of your interest in a kit. I will then be able to give you the most current and up-to-date information on order process and time frames.
Tuning & Engine Management Help
The S2000 community is blessed to have Mark Deppensmith (see his car here) actively involved and willing to offer his experiences and expertise in getting your S2000 tuned and running. Mark has assisted many existing customers with the Greddy E-manage Ultimate (and others) setups, including providing dyno tuned maps for you to begin with. These maps were developed with many, many hours of dyno time, street time, and track time into them. Mark has graciously offered to assist new kit owners if needed.
Please note that Mark is not employed by Stage One Tuning, Barker Products nor Static X Motorsports (previous distributor). He is simply an enthusiastic S2000 owner with the SOT MP62 supercharger kit and he's willing to help you if needed.
Thank you!

Quality &
Design
The first thing you will notice when you receive
your supercharger kit is the quality of materials and manufacturing. From our laser-cut
and tig-welded brackets, to our CNC machined adapters and mounts, to the clamps, hoses and belt, our kit uses
quality materials. Furthermore, we've been manufacturing supercharger kits for years and have established long term relationships with many of our suppliers. These suppliers are right here in the United States of America. They provide quality service and/or products to us and we reward them with continued business instead of always looking for the cheapest supplier of the month or looking over seas for cheap manufacturing. This commitment supports our regional small businesses and assures us of quality components in a timely manner.
Our supercharger kit is commonly referred to as a "Hotside" supercharger. This nomenclature is used to describe the location of
the
supercharger unit on the exhaust side of the head. This design allows us to
reduce the installation time and cost as compared to a replacement intake manifold. The hotside setup also provides plenty of room
for an efficient intercooler to be installed for even
more power. The end result is an
efficient supercharger kit on the market with upgrade potential and a less complex installation.
Driving
Our
EATON MP62 supercharger features a vacuum
actuated bypass valve that opens when not in boost, allowing air to
flow around the supercharger. This means your gas mileage is virtually
unaffected when you are not in boost. Previous customers report only
losing 0.5mpg highway with their kits installed. Some have even
reported gas mileage improving! This also means that, under part
throttle, your S2000 will drive like it always did.
Of
course, all this changes
when you get on the accelerator pedal. The actuator closes and the MP62
goes to work to produce the smoothest power possible. Power is
significantly improved throughout the entire RPM range to produce a
driving experience like no other. The neat thing about the Stage One Tuning
Supercharger is how well it adds what has been missing from the S2000 -- low rpm torque! Typical results can have an S2000 seeing over 300+ rear wheel horsepower and 200+ wheel torque on a Dyno dynamics at an average of 5.5 - 6.5 psi. We're not talking peak torque numbers here, we're talking approximately 200 wheel torque across the RPM range. Like we said, this kit adds what has been missing from the S2000!
Reliability
The S2000 is one
of the most reliable sports cars you can buy. We
knew that reaching this same level would be tough, and we are certain
we have risen to the challenge. For starters, we chose the Eaton MP62
blower as the centerpiece of out kit. This is the most reliable
supercharger on the market today, and has been used for countless years
by Mercedes, Ford, GM, BMW (Mini), Nissan, and Jaguar to name a few.
These blowers are internally oiled and under normal operating
conditions require zero service for 100,000
miles.
To drive
our supercharger we
use our 6-rib belt drive and automatic belt tensioner system. The 6-rib provides
more grip on the pulley, allowing us to use less belt tension, and
extend supercharger bearing life. The auto-tensioner assembly not only
increases belt life, but makes changing belts a breeze. All
of our 6-rib nose and crank pulleys are CNC machined from billet
aluminum. Each pulley is precision machined to the tight tolerances
required for proper fit into the S2000's crank pulley or the shaft of
the EATON MP62. As always, proper tolerances for sheave and groove
dimensions have been engineered into the design for proper function
with v-ribbed belts.
We have early kit adopters who have been running their bolt-on street kit for YEARS and have seen over 60,000 miles of street driving, track abuse, autorcross abuse, cross-country drives and all with no failures. We believe BETA testers and early kit owners have put our kit through it's paces and have proven to reliable our kit is.

Would you like to learn even more about the kit? Have some questions? We've listed below additional information and answers to some of the more frequently asked questions.
The MP62 Supercharger & Supporting Hardware.
SOT
supercharger kit uses the Magnuson MP62 supercharger for its compact
design and performance which provides the best balance between boost
response, boost pressure, and the packaging constraints in the S2000
engine bay. The Magnuson MP62 supercharger is a hybrid of the Eaton
roots style supercharger. These units are known for their efficiency,
durability and reliability. So much so, theyre virtually the only
original equipment superchargers in use today. Youll find these
supercharger units are the choice for OEM applications on vehicles from
GM, Ford, Toyota, Lotus, and more. As such, the SOT supercharger units
meet all OEM durability criteria, such as the 100,000 mile OEM vehicle
durability tests.
SOT took all of the experience from designing
and manufacturing Mazda Miata supercharger kits and applied that
experience during the design stages of the S2000 supercharger kit. The
kits supporting hardware consists in part of laser cut brackets and components that are e-coated. This coating process is one
that automobile
manufacturers use for parts that are not exposed to ultra violet light
long term. This finish also has an excellent salt spray
characteristics. Aesthetically, the finish greatly compliments existing
OEM components under your car 's hood as well as compliments the anodized aluminum components of our kit. The CNC machined aluminum components of
the kit (such as th big throttle body) are black anodized; the kit also
contains zinc plated hardware and quality silicone hose connectors.
PWR Air / Water Intercooler
The intercooler kit included with
the S2000 supercharger kit is made up of components from PWR, the
leading manufacturer of Air to Water Intercoolers in Australia. With
over 25 years in the industry, PWR has been providing OEM replacement
radiators as well as high performance radiators, intercooler cores and
coolers to the aftermarket industry and racing series such as the V8
Supercars in Australia.
The PWR intercoolers have been used
with great success on everything from daily driven 225 hp Mazda Miatas
to high horsepower drag, road, and GT race cars. During the beta
testing we have constantly seen intake air temps (IATs) at or even
below what is often seen on naturally aspirated S2000 roadsters. Our
closed water to air intercooler system is performing very well and also
has the added benefit of minimizing the amount of throttled air volume.
Typical IATs in Boost (after stead state condition are reached) average
10-12C above ambient
Engine Management (Included with the Full Kit Option).
The Greddy E-manage Ultimate with a plug and play harness is the standard engine management included with the full kit.
The E-manage Ultimate provides the necessary tuning features without
over complicating the install and tuning process. The E-manage Ultimate
will come with a full unlocked base-map. This base map was
extensively tuned and tested for over a year and has been abuse tested
at various Auto Cross Events and cross country drives. This base map
will be unlocked and fully accessible by your local tuner assuming he
has the appropriate E-manage software and access to a loaded dyno.
Engine Management OPTIONS
Greddy
pressure sensor w/ harness provides greater pressure resolution then
Stock MAP sensor is strongly recommended. The Static X Motorsports S2000 is using the Greddy pressure sensor to run
everything including the stock ECU.
Greddy A/F plug (used for A/F
feed back features requires use of a wideband with 0-5v output). Also
strongly recommended, it allows real time fuel adjustments in boost similar
to what the stock computer does in close loop but now in boost. This keeps
your Air/Fuel ideal for varying conditions.
-
PLX SM-AFR (no gauge ) wideband
- *PLX SM-AFR +DM-5 gauge and wideband controller
-
*PLX SM-AFR +DM-100 Organic LED Digital Gauge and wideband controller
-
*Gauge mount or A-pillar gauge pod mounting.
Injectors & Fuel Pump
The
full kit will come with either a set of 550cc OEM Manufactured drop
in injectors or a set of 550 RC injectors (your choice) and a Walbro
255GHP Fuel pump (Model 342). The 550cc OEM injectors ARE NOT modified original equipment injectors these are brand new
injectors that come from the manufacturer which Honda uses to supply the
original S2000 stock injectors. Even at 330whp the Static X Motorsports S2000 consistently sees duty cycles in the 72-75% range due to the more efficient spray patter
on thes injector then on the RC injectors.
Spark Plugs
Any spark plug that is one step colder then stock ( Heat range =8) can be used.
NGK 2668 (Resistor)
For
hotter climates greater then 100deg F ambient air temps it is
recommended to use a plug with a Heat Range of 9 (two steps colder then
stock)
NGK 2669 (Resistor)
Questions & Answers.
-
What are the typical performance gains? Typical
results are in the +200 WTQ and +300 WHP on a Dyno dynamics at an
average of 5.5-6.5psi. [126mm pulley]. Both the AP1 and AP2 will have
about the same peek HP numbers with the AP2 coming in with a slightly
higher TQ number.
-
Can I use my stock Clutch? The stock
clutch will work fine with this setup assuming you are not doing 6,000
RPM clutch drops and you are shifting correctly.
-
Which versions of the S2000 is this available for? The
kit is compatible on non Drive by wire s2000s only.
-
How does the Stock differential hold up to this much TQ.? Its
more about the driving style then the capacity of the differential
itself. There has not been any reported problems with any of the AP1 or
AP2 beta testers differentials.
-
Is it required to relocate the Air Conditioning lines to install this kit? Yes
and No. You have a couple of options here. The A/C lines over the
exhaust header area can either be carefully bent out of the way, or
they can be removed and replaced with a set of custom lines from an A/C
shop in your area. Leaving the factory lines will certainly make the
mounting of the supercharger more difficult, and the space around the
supercharger assembly will be quite tight once the installation is
complete. The instructions include images for the various setups that
the beta testers implemented. These images and notes will be very
useful to your local A/C shop in gauging the work and components
required in order to give you an accurate estimate. From my experience,
we recommend shopping the quote around as it can vary greatly from one
shop to another.
-
Will I need to run a thicker engine oil with this kit as is suggested with turbo kits? With
a Roots style supercharger the lubrication system is self-contained and
does not need any sort of feed from the cars standard oil system. We
do recommend a hi grade 10W-30 or higher full synthetic oil.
-
Am I required to run a catch can with this system? No. However, if you want to run one I can get the information/contact to you to show you how to properly interface a catch can with this supercharger kit.
-
I have crank vents how do I install them? / Can I use Crank vents with this supercharger? You
can use crank vents. Installing them should be straight forward. A DIY write-up can be done on crank vents with the SOT kit since
some of the vacuum lines are rerouted with this kit.
